China and Uzbekistan are set to deepen their bilateral cooperation following Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s recent official visit to Uzbekistan. During the two-day visit to Tashkent, Premier Li met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov. This diplomatic engagement resulted in the signing of multiple agreements aimed at enhancing collaboration across various sectors including infrastructure, artificial intelligence, green development, and trade.

A significant highlight of the agreements is the advancement of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project. Both nations have committed to pushing forward this initiative to enhance regional connectivity and bolster economic growth. Premier Li further encouraged Chinese enterprises to invest in Uzbekistan, with Uzbekistan reciprocating by expressing its readiness to create a favorable business environment for foreign investors.

The scope of cooperation extends beyond infrastructure, as both countries have agreed to strengthen ties in energy, mineral resources, modern agriculture, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and environmental protection. China has shown interest in importing more high-quality Uzbek products, while urging Uzbekistan to seize opportunities to expand its access to the Chinese market.

China currently stands as Uzbekistan’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching $16.1 billion last year, reflecting a 17.9 percent increase from the previous year. This economic partnership is complemented by commitments to foster political trust, increase investments, and promote cultural, educational, and tourism exchanges.

Beyond economic and cultural exchanges, the leaders of both countries have pledged to enhance their coordination on regional and international issues, reinforcing their strategic partnership. This visit underscores a mutual intent to further develop and strengthen the ties between China and Uzbekistan, setting a foundation for future cooperation and development.
