Every rule in the film marketing playbook has been broken by Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Its trailer, released on March 17, became the first movie trailer in history to cross one billion views, doing so within just four days. Tom Holland’s fourth MCU Spider-Man film has achieved a promotional milestone that the industry had never even imagined was possible.
Brand New Day continues the story of Peter Parker following No Way Home’s devastating conclusion, in which the world was made to forget his very existence. The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton with a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, shows a Peter who has been living alone and unrecognized for four years. Yet despite everything, he continues to be Spider-Man — quietly, selflessly, and without reward.
WaveMetrix confirmed the trailer crossed 1.1 billion total views by Tuesday. The 24-hour viewership came in at 718.6 million, a figure that obliterated the previous record set by Deadpool & Wolverine at 365 million and the one held by No Way Home’s trailer at 355.5 million. GTA VI’s entertainment record of 475 million was also eclipsed, cementing Brand New Day’s status as the most-watched trailer in film history.
The broader cultural significance of this trailer cannot be overstated. Spider-Man has always been the most relatable superhero — a young person doing extraordinary things while dealing with ordinary heartbreak and hardship. Brand New Day amplifies those qualities to their most extreme form, and the result has struck a chord with audiences around the world at a frequency never before recorded.
The film stars Tom Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. It opens July 31 and will screen in India in six languages across all premium formats. No Way Home earned $1.9 billion, and Brand New Day looks ready to challenge or surpass that achievement.
